Greenland is the world's largest island, located between the North Atlantic and Arctic oceans. It is autonomous Danish dependent territory with limited self-government and its own parliament.

The Greenlandic people are mainly Inuit (Kalaallit), with a strong mix of early European immigrant strains. More than one-tenth of the people are Danish. The official language is Greenlandic with Danish and English as second languages.

Three quarters of the land is covered by ice with most of its small population residing along the ice-free, fjord-lined coast, particularly in the southwest.
